Touro UniversityNevada graduate travels to Washington, D.C. to lobby for additional funding for adolescent sudden cardiac arrest research
Touro University Nevada (TUN) graduate and assistant professor, Scott Lamprecht, DNP, RN, is traveling to Washington , D.C. to meet with Senator Harry Reid and other legislators for additional funding through the American Heart Association for adolescent sudden cardiac arrest research.
Dr. Lamprecht was one of the first students to graduate from TUN’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program and is an Assistant Professor at the university’s School of Nursing . During his doctoral program work, he compiled evidence and developed a screening tool to recognize the potential risk of sudden cardiac arrest in adolescent athletes. Pilot screenings showed the tool had positive predictive value in identifying potentially life-threatening outcomes if left untreated.
“We are very proud of what Dr. Lamprecht has accomplished with his research,” said Senior Provost & CEO, Michael Harter, Ph.D. “It has already made an impact on lives in Southern Nevada by helping to identify 29 adolescents at risk for sudden cardiac arrest.”
With additional funding, research about adolescent sudden cardiac arrest can be expanded.Additional research can be used to educate health care providers to screen for risk of sudden cardiac death in adolescents during sports physicals.
