Monday's Musical Muses

Joanna Newsom is a singer/songwriter, harpist, pianist from California which I've been following for about six years. When I first discovered her first album The Milk-Eyed Mender, I became completely absorbed by the addictive Peach, Plum, Pear track. I would literally listen to the song on repeat for weeks, but I just couldn't get enough of her unique sound. In 2006, Joanna released Ys which immediately was proclaimed one of the best albums of the year. And Ys truly was a jem; I still listen to the 5 track, 56 minute album constantly. There is so much amazing stories and imagery which Joanna is able to create with her words and harp. 2010 brought another amazing three disc album, Have One on Me, which is truly fabulous; however, I still think Ys is my absolute favorite. This summer while on internship in Vancouver, I had the opportunity to see Joanna live at The Vogue Theatre, and it was the most amazing part of my summer. The concert was an breath-taking preformance and she is possibly the most adorable person I've ever seen! If you ever have the chance to see Joanna Newsom live, GO!!!!!! It's worth any price. I would go again in a heartbeat.

I am totally obsessed with Joanna's music, but her vintage style is also intriguing - it is almost as if she belongs in another century at times: she is far too wise for our time.
