Summary: Set in the slums of New Orleans, among clusters of crack houses and abandoned buildings, Dirty Little Angels is the story of sixteen year old Hailey Trosclair. When the Trosclair family suffers a string of financial hardships and a miscarriage, Hailey finds herself looking to God to save her family. When her prayers go unanswered, Hailey puts her faith in Moses Watkins, a failed preacher and ex-con. Fascinated by Moses' lopsided view of religion, Hailey, and her brother Cyrus, begin spending time down at an abandoned bank that Moses plans to convert into a drive-through church. Gradually, though, Moses' twisted religious beliefs become increasingly more violent, and Hailey and Cyrus soon find themselves trapped in a world of danger and fear from which there may be no escape. Review: Dirty Little Angels was a somewhat different read for me.  I’m having really mixed feelings about it.  For starters, I thought Hailey was an interesting character and I thought that the book was really interesting.  But at the same time it had some slightly graphic content that made me feel slightly uncomfortable to read about.  I think that was supposed to be the idea of it but it just made me feel uncomfortable and I felt I had to continue reading to get through it as quickly as I could.

I’m almost at a complete loss for words when it comes to Dirty Little Angels.  The writing is well done, I’ll give Chris Tusa that much, but I felt that the overly descriptive parts shouldn’t have been better put to use on some of the other parts of the book.

I both liked and didn’t like the ending.  It was completely unexpected and I’m going to be thinking about it for a while but at the same time I can’t help but wonder if that was really the best ending for it.

I think that Dirty Little Angels is one of those books you’ll either like or not like.  If you like books that are different and will take you out of your comfort zone then I think that Dirty Little Angels would be a good book for you.  If however, you’re like me and descriptive sex scenes put you off a book, then maybe this one just isn’t for you.
