Thoughts: Zombies vs Unicorns is an anthology featuring some very awesome authors. The book alternates between a story about unicorns and one about zombies. I don’t actually have a preference for zombies or unicorns and when I read this book I thought that maybe I would lean one way or the other. Nope, I still sit on the fence about the zombies vs unicorns debate. I have a feeling that I always will be a fence sitter.
Now, on to the stories; I have a bunch of favourites and then some that I didn’t like so much. My favourite ones were Purity Test by Naomi Novik (unicorns), The Children of the Revolution by Maureen Johnson (zombies), The Care and Feeding of your baby Killer Unicorn by Diana Peterfreund (unicorns), Inoculata by Scott Westerfeld (zombies), Princess Prettypants by Meg Cabot (unicorns), and Cold Hands by Cassandra Clare (zombies). The others I either enjoyed or didn’t like. There were a couple that I really did not like but most of them I really loved as you can tell from my list above.
Another really interesting part of the book was the commentary from Holly Black and Justine Larbalestier before each story. The commentaries made me laugh out loud as well as introduced me to each story before I read it.
Anthologies are amazing because I always find new authors to read. This one was no exception. There are some really good authors in Zombies vs Unicorns.
Zombies vs Unicorns was an awesome anthology and I had a lot of fun reading through it. If you’re looking for a good read and a good debate over zombies vs unicorns, then I think this one might be for you.
