Destroy Troy by Charlie Carter

    Title: Destroy Troy

    Author: Charlie Carter

    Published: Pan Australia, 2009

    Pages: 88

    Series: Book 3, Battle Boy

Snippet: "To the bitter end it will be."

Summary: Arrows are flying, fireballs are scorching the sky; soldiers are hurling spears and clashing swords - BB005 has landed in the middle off a battle between the Greeks and the Trojans.

Review: Destroy Troy is an interesting book.  I think of all the Battle Boy books I've read so far, Destroy Troy was the most interesting.  I think it was the most interesting because it was all about the battle of Troy which is something that really interests me.

While this is for younger readers it's definitely an entertaining read, and it teaches younger people all about history.

The illustrations are all really good too.  I stopped and had a look at them and some of them caught my eye because they were really good.

I think the target audience for the battle boy series would be boys aged 8-10.

It's not too bad if you want to check it out sometime.

Red Devil Down by Charlie Carter

    Title: Red Devil Down

    Author: Charlie Carter

    Published: Pan Australia, 2009

    Pages: 89

    Series: Book 2, Battle Boy

Snippet: "Sparks will be flying soon."

Summary: Battle Boy is in the wrong place at the wrong time. He's supposed to be finding out who shot down the Red Baron - the most famous pilot of World War One.

Review: Red Devil Down is a pretty small book but then again it is for younger readers and it is highly entertaining for such a small book.

I think this book is best suited for boys ages 8-12. There are some big words and themes that might not be so suitable for anyone younger.

I think Red Devil Down is good for giving people a brief glimpse at history and if they're interested they can look into the topic a bit more.

There's not a lot else I can say about this book except that I don't know about the protagonist, Napoleon, this is the second book and he's been disobedient twice. It just annoys me a little bit.

Anyway, Red Devil Down was really interesting.

Open Fire by Charlie Carter

    Title: Open Fire
    Author: Charlie Carter
    Published: Pan Australia, 2009
    Pages: 90
    Series: Book 1, Battle Boy
Snippet: "A heavy hand clamped down on his shoulder."
Summary: Battle Boy 005 is hurtling through time. Destination: 1587. It's his very first mission for Operation Battle Book!
Review: This is the first ever book I have read and reviewed with a specific audience in mind. The whole time I was looking at this book I had in mind whether or not it would be suitable for an 8 year old boy.
First I have to say that this is mostly a male interest read but girl's could get into it too. It's also the kind of book that would be suitable for people just getting into bigger books. But I also have some complaints about this book.
For example, two of the characters are named Napoleon and Caesar and well I don't think a younger person just getting into reading would be able to pronounce those names. It's a clever idea to incorporate historical names into the book but those two are quite difficult to pronounce.
Storywise, this book is really good when it comes to science fiction and history. There's a little bit about history in there making it educational.
The illustrations are really good and they help explain parts of the book.
Overall, I think this book would be best suited for someone around the age of 8-11 but younger children should have a parent help them out with some parts. Open Fire is good for entertainment purposes too.
