Killer by Sara Shepard

    Title: Killer

    Author: Sara Shepard

Published: New York : HarperTeen, c2009

    Pages: 321

Series: Book 6, Pretty Little Liars

Snippet:"The person's face was covered by a huge hood."

Summary: May contain spoilers! Former best friends Emily, Aria, Hanna, and Spencer continue to live in fear as they struggle to keep hidden even more secrets and someone new begins stalking them via their cell phones. (Taken from Christchurch City Libraries Website)

Review: Oh my goodness! Cliffhanger ending anybody. Killer has to be the most intense book in the Pretty Little Liars so far. Ugh I just wish I had the last two books with me.

Without giving too much away, there was so much mystery  going on. Like, what is up with A? All of this suspense is driving me crazy, I JUST HAVE TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS.

I have just one little thing to say about Spencer, oh man I just feel like telling her that she is crazy. I just feel so bad for her and yeah. We'll leave it there.

Killer is a reminder of why I love to read and why I love mystery and suspense books.  If you have not read Killer or any of the Pretty Little Liars then you should definitely now.  I know the covers don't look like much but really the story and plot is so in-depth and amazing you can't help but get sucked in.

The Mermaid's Mirror by L. K. Madigan

    Title: The Mermaid's Mirror

    Author: L. K. Madigan

Published: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, October 2010

    Pages: 336

Snippet: "The moon shone down on the waves, making them glitter like thousands of tiny lights flickering just beneath the surface, rolling over and over.."

Summary: Lena has lived her whole life near the beach—walking for miles up and down the shore and breathing the salty air, swimming in the cold water, and watching the surfers rule the waves—the problem is, she’s spent her whole life just watching.

As her sixteenth birthday approaches, Lena vows she will no longer watch from the sand: she will learn to surf.

But her father – a former surfer himself – refuses to allow her to take lessons. After a near drowning in his past, he can’t bear to let Lena take up the risky sport.

Yet something lures Lena to the water … an ancient, powerful magic. One morning Lena catches sight of this magic: a beautiful woman—with a silvery tail.

Nothing will keep Lena from seeking the mermaid, not even the dangerous waves at Magic Crescent Cove.

And soon … what she sees in the mermaid’s mirror will change her life …
    (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: This is the first young adult novel I've read that is about mermaid's.  I don't think it's a spoiler at all to say that this is a book about mermaid's. Anyway, as far as mermaid's go this book had them and they were interesting creatures thats for sure.

I have to say I liked the first half of the book a bit better than the second half.  This is mostly because there was a whole element of mystery and suspense for the first half so you didn't know what was going on and it just made you want to keep turning the pages.

Unfortunately, while I did like The Mermaid's Mirror I didn't think it was anything too special.  It was a nice, pleasant read that didn't take me too long to read. It was entertaining but there was just nothing overly wonderful about it.  It was average.

None of the characters except maybe Ani appealed to me, I just didn't find any of the characters overly appealing. Lena wasn't too bad, she just wasn't anything special.

I did feel the ending was a little rushed but it wasn't too bad an ending.  I had hoped it would end a different way than it did but no, we can't always have happy endings.

If you like mermaid's and are looking for a simple and easy read then The Mermaid's Mirror is a good book to choose.

Who's the new 'Kira' in town?

Review: Wow, I swear that every volume of Death Note I read gets better and better and better.  The first one was cool, the second one was really cool and then the third one was awesome.

There was quite a lot of things happening in this book that it made it really intense and really interesting.

None of my feelings for any of the characters have changed, Ryuk is still the coolest character ever.

The ending was awesome and it left me wanting more.  I really cannot wait to read the fourth book because this series is so awesome.

Review: Death Note is amazing!!! I am addicted to this series, it's pretty close to being my favourite manga but I think at this stage I'll read more to see how it goes in the end.

The characters are all really cool, my favourite so far is Ryuk, he is just the coolest character ever! I love the way he is drawn and it just makes him look so cool.

Death Note Volume 2 is really really suspensful, there is so much going on that you'll be on the edge of your seat reading through it because you just have to know what happens.  That really sums up how I felt about it.

Review: If you're after something suspensful and very unique, then Death note is a good book for you.  Just one word of warning about it though and that is that it is a manga.  So if you don't really read manga then you may not find Death note to be the best book for you.

I loved Death note so much.  I loved it so much that I sat down and read it in one go.  It was so amazing and really suspensful and everything I love in stories like that.  There's so much suspense and I just had to keep reading it to find out more about what was going on.

So many of the characters are lovable too.  I think so far my favourite would have to be Ryuk he just seems so cool.  He's very different.  Light is very cunning and interesting, I like him as a main character because he's not entirely good so to speak.  I think L is interesting too, mostly because he's very mysterious and I am interested in knowing more about him.

The illustrations in Death note are really cool I didn't find them too hard to make out what was happening.  Most of the characters were drawn really well.  I love the look of Ryuk.

I think thats about all I have to say about Death note.  It is totally amazing and if you love suspensful thrillers with a supernatural element then Death Note is a great manga for you.

Wicked by Sara Shepard

    Title: Wicked

    Author: Sara Shepard

Published: New York : HarperTeen, 2009

    Pages: 310

Series: Book 5, Pretty Little Liars

Snippet: "It was as if Hanna had dreamed the whole thing."

Summary: The stalker's identity has finally been revealed but high school juniors Spencer, Emily, Hanna, and Aria seem condemned to repeat the past as they resume their unrepentant ways.

Review: Oh My Goodness! Wicked is such a great book.  So many secrets and so many mysteries, I'm dying to know more.

The ending was such a cliffhanger that as soon as I finished it I groaned inward because I hadn't gotten the next book in the series.

I'll be making this review short because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't read the books or haven't read up to this one.  But if you haven't read it you definitely should read it because this is such an amazing series and really addictive so make sure you have ready access to all of the books.

I found Wicked to be a really good book, so suspenseful and so addictive.  A couple of things I kind of expected to happen but most of it really surprised me.  I just wish I could read the next book.

If you haven't discovered the Pretty Little Liars Series yet then you definitely should.

Unbelievable by Sara Shepard

    Title: Unbelievable

    Author: Sara Shepard

Published: New York : HarperTeen, 2008

    Pages: 335

Series: Book 4, Pretty Little Liars

Snippet: "Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who's the naughtiest of them all?"

Summary: Four girls living in a wealthy suburb discover the identity of a stalker who has been sending them shocking text messages, and uncover the mystery of who killed their childhood friend.

Review: Wow, wow and another wow for effect.  Unbelievable is quite literally unbelievable.  Meaning it is unbelievably good!

So much suspense too.  I had to get up really early the next morning and I stayed up really late to finish this book because the suspense was crazy and I just had to know what was going to happen.

Throughout Unbelievable I had an inkling of who A was and yes I was right but before that I was quite stumped.  I have my suspicions about who Ali's killer is though.  And I don't want to give too much away about anything so I'm just going to say that the end of this book did open up a new set of questions for me.

I thought it was sad watching all four girls go from having really happy lives into sad, depressing ones because people do things that other people won't like or could hurt other people but at the end of the day some of the things A pointed out about the girl's just didn't seem all that bad.  It was sad to see how A was so into getting revenge they couldn't see that they were becoming worse than the girl's.

Overall, I loved Unbelievable and cannot wait for the next book, Wicked, which is out now.  I think this series would be best read when you have access to a lot of the books at once because they are really addictive.

Ghost in the Machine by Patrick Carman

    Title: Ghost in the Machine
    Author: Patrick Carman
Published: New York : Scholastic Press, 2009
    Pages: 205
    Series: Sequel to Skeleton Creek
Snippet: "I want to live, don't you want to live?"
Summary: Although forbidden to see each other, Ryan and Sarah continue their investigation of the mysterious happenings at the dredge by communicating through video clips, text messages, midnight meetings, and journaling.
Review: I loved Skeleton Creek and could not wait to read Ghost in the Machine after the cliffhanger ending of Skeleton Creek. I managed to read this book and watch all of the videos in a day because it is so entertaining and amazing.
In a way Ghost in the Machine reminded me a little of the movie Disturbia because it's so full of suspense that you have to keep reading it to know wants going on.
So many of the videos were creepy and I started reading this at midnight, alone in my room and it was pretty freaky.
I thought it ended really well and it was so cool to see everything revealed. Although, it did have a bit of a Scooby-Doo feeling to it, but nonetheless it was a good ending.
Overall, Ghost in the Machine is definitely a good book to read if you're in the mood for something creepy and a book where you watch a video and read text to go along with it.

Snippet: "It's a reflex. Hear a bell, get food. See an undead, throw a knife. Same thing, really."

Pressured by both sides to find the killer, Kate realizes she's way out of her league—but she wouldn't have it any other way…
Review: Magic Bites is more of an adults book with one or two mentions of adult themes. I decided for a change of pace and read an adults book. I actually really really loved Magic Bites. It was such a cool book.
I loved the descriptions of different bits and pieces. Be warned though, there were some graphic descriptions but they were really well written.
I loved Kate she was such a cool, tough chick. She was independent and there was something about her that just wasn't told to us. I vaguely know what it is but I think I need to read the next book in the series to find out exactly what it was.
I really liked how the vampires in this book were portrayed it was a lot different to any of the books I've read in the past and I loved it so much.
There were so many things that were awesome about Magic Bites that I could go on and on and you'd be here all night. But I actually don't have anything negative to say about Magic Bites. When I think about it, nope, it was a really well-written and completely awesome book. It is definitely worth reading. I know I will also be picking the next book up some time in the future.
If you feel like reading something different thats a little bit more of an adults book then Magic Bites is definitely a good book. It is full of magic, mystery, creatures of the night, well-written descriptions and fantastic characters. There's even a tiny bit of romance, not much, but enough to satisfy those who like a little bit of romance.
