NSWOR: Conference Edition

Hi Lovelies! So I might have lied yesterday about getting my blog back on track, forgive me?! I am going to be at a conference in Delaware from Thursday to Saturday.....and I thought, why can't I make this blog friendly?! Soooooo.....Here's my outfits for the conference - which of course, I already have picked out, even down to the accessories. I mean, there is only so much room in a suitcase, I had to plan ahead :) Enjoy!







Day One: Bus drive to Delaware (10hrs) + Reception

Pretty Little Liars: Mona Inspiration

Monday's Musical Muses

Natasha Khan is a singer, songwriter, and musician who hails from London, and is better known for her stage name, Bat for Lashes. Natasha studied music and visual arts at the University of Brighton, and has quite a bucket of instruments under her  playing piano, guitar, bass, harpsicord, and autoharp. She released her debut album, Fur and Gold in 2006. In 2009, she released a second album, Two Suns. Natasha's sound is best described as haunting; her lyrics create dream-like imagery for the listener to interpret but usually have to do with love and relationships. I first heard Bat for Lashes in 2006, finding the single, Prescilla. As soon as I heard it I was hooked and bought the album. Then came out Two Suns, and I scooped it up as fast as I could. Two Suns is a fabulous album and all the songs transfer so nicely into the next; the meaning of the album has been described as, "a record of modern-day fables exploring dualities on a number of levels – two lovers, two planets, two sides of a personality." Althought, I love all the songs on the album, I would highly recommend Daniel and Pearl's Dream. And my fav music video is probably of What's a Girl to Do. Bikes and animal masks? Yes. Hell yes.

Natasha's sense of style is completely her own; her creativity and ability to experiment with so many different textures and colors creates her tribal-folk vintage style. Natasha is spotting usually wearing a sequin headband over her thick bangs, along with bright colors, lots of animal print and furs, sequins (yayayayay!!), and hobo chic items such as white dresses, headbands, flowy shirts. Her make-up is always an unique combination of fake dripping tears, pointed arrows on her cheeks and other artistic designs. Okay....SO I might have lied a bit. Maybe I will be able to keep up this outfit roundup post. I had a good week and was feeling a little more inspired and not so, "Blaaaaaaah, why did school start up again?! WHYYYYYY...". So this is what I wore this week, in the Maybe-It-Will-Be-Weekly Outfit Roundup. Or MIWBWOR, for short. Ya know. Enjoy!






Manic Monday: UO white blouse, AE grey jegging cords, Aldo flats, AE necklace...realizing now how wrinkly this shirt gets over the course of the day ;)







Tuesday: Le Chateau white tank, Joe Fresh chambray shirt, J. Crew denim pencil skirt, J. Crew glitter skinny belt, UO tights, J. Crew Langford leather high-heel oxfords in brownstone, thrifted pearl necklace.



Wednesday: UO fur trapper hat, J.Crew wool coat, UO black jegging, Sorel boots, gifted men's camp socks, gifted mits.....So this is a typical walking-to-school outfit. I have leggings under my pants.... and about 5 shirts. and I look like a lumberjack. Yes, I am creating a new genre: Lumberjack Chic.







Thursday: J. Crew sequin-tiered ruffle tissue tank, AE cardigan, F21 butterfly necklace, Silver jeans, Costa Blanca flats.



Friday: (aka hobo fresh day) J. Crew stripe slouch pocket tee, J. Crew vintage pearl necklace, Bluenotes cardigan, Eclipse skinny jeans, Aldo flats.









Again, Maki is the photographer behind these shinanigans and she always does a lovely job :) Thanks Maki-Attacki! I really liked most of my outfits this week, except Friday felt kinda blah (so I jazzed up my outfit with major J. Crew bling). Hope you liked the post :)

Monday's Musical Muses

We might know Zooey Deschanel   from the big screen, in the movies Elf, Yes Man, and  (500) Days of Summer, but did you also know she is in a band?! Well if you saw Elf than you know she can sing! Zooey is a actress and singer-songwriter from California, who teamed up with M. Ward to create an indie band, She & Him, which released their first album in 2008, Volume One. Volume One recieved positive reviews and became quite popular, especially with the help of music videos in collaboration with (500) Days of Summer. Volume Two was released in 2010 and also recieved positive reviews and the duo gained an instant following. Zooey does the singing, writes the lyrics, and plays piano and ukulele, while M. Ward provides the guitar and production. Together, they have created songs that sound like sunny-day pop songs with a throw back to 50s and 60s vintage. I have really enjoyed the songs Why Do You Let Me Stay Here and In the Sun. Check them out! Did I mention there is dancing in In the Sun music video?!:) Also, did I mention she married Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie?! She did. NOT Hunter Burgan *phewf!*

Zooey's vintage voice matches her vintage style perfectly: the girl is always spotted wearing floral dresses, mary-jane heels, tights, cute headbands or bows, and adorable coats. In (500) Days of Summer, Zooey's character Summer Finn was always portrayed wearing a blue outfit. This explains exactly why I love her clothes so much!
